Giggs trial jury discharged after failing to reach verdict

A UK judge on Wednesday discharged the 11-person jury in the domestic violence case against former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs, after it failed to reach a verdict despite days of deliberations. Judge Hilary Manley dismissed the jury of seven women and four men, which had been given the option of delivering a majority verdict, after determining there was no "realistic prospect" of a decision following almost 23 hours of consideration. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which oversees prosecutions in England and Wales, were given a week to decide whether to retry the case following the four-week trial at Manchester Crown Court. "I have permitted the prosecution a short period of time to consider their position," Manley told Giggs shortly after discharging the jurors, adding "more will be clear in a week's time". The CPS must consider the public interest of a retrial of the 48-year-old former footballer, who until recently served as coach of t

Former Playboy bunnies claim they 'had' to participate in unprotected orgies

Huge Heffner's girlfriends have come forward to say that while they lived in the famous Playboy Mansion, they had to participate in unprotected sex orgies with him otherwise they would be gaslit and not invited back to Heffner's inner circle and lose their privileges. Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt were both part of Huge Heffner's inner circle and they both dated him and were his "main girlfriends,". According to A&E's 10-episode documentary called "Secrets of Playboy," the playmates had a very different perspective and experience than what people perceived living in the famous mansion meant. Furthermore, both Playboy bunnies opened up at a can of worms on Heather McDonald's "Juicy Scoop" podcast by claiming that they had to have unprotected sex with more people "I was still just gonna watch and then [one of the other Playmates] was like, 'Aren't you gonna go?' It was like, 'You need to go.' And I was

Togo becomes first country globally to eliminate four Neglected Tropical Diseases

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recognized Togo as the first country globally to eliminate four Neglected Tropical Diseases. The WHO made this known during its Regional Committee for Africa meeting held in Lomé on Monday, August 22. Between 2011 and 2022, Togo has successfully eliminated dracunculiasis (Guinea worm disease), elephantiasis (lymphatic filariasis),  human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), and trachoma. NTDs are a group of 20 preventable and treatable diseases, but 1.7 billion people worldwide still require NTD interventions. Many NTDs debilitate, disfigure and disable by preventing children from going to school and adults from being able to work. In a statement by Associate Consultant, Kingsley Ochieng of the Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases, he noted that as the first country acknowledged by WHO as having won its fight against four NTDs, Togo eliminated all four diseases in just eleven years. “Togo previously achieved transmission-free s

Anthony Joshua has lost a lot of faith in the system, not interested in fighting for belts anymore - Eddie Hearn

Top boxing promoter,  Eddie Hearn has claimed that Anthony Joshua has 'lost faith in the system' after he threw Oleksandr Usyk's world heavyweight titles out of the ring after his rematch defeat last weekend.  Joshua failed to reclaim his WBO, WBA, IBO, and IBF titles to Usyk which he lost in their first encounter last September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. After losing a split-decision on the judges' scorecards, an emotional AJ  confronted members of Usyk's team and threw his rival's titles out of the ring before conducting a bizarre post-fight speech. Speaking about the incident, Hearn told IFL TV: “He’s held onto those belts for a long time, and those governing bodies have charged him a lot of money and put a lot of mandatories on him.”  “And I think he’s lost a lot of faith in the system and I think he started to not be interested in fighting for belts anymore. I think he just wants to fight for enjoyment and to challenge himself. “Of course, he

Arsenal Football club placed on a UEFA watchlist with Barcelona and PSG for potentially breaching financial fair play rules

Arsenal have been placed on the FFP watchlist by UEFA after reporting a loss of £213million over the past three seasons. UEFA rules only allow € 30 million (£25million) over a three-year period, but UEFA allow covid-related losses, and 'healthy' spending on women's football and the academy to be written off. The Gunners have spent heavily over the past two seasons. Last summer, Arsenal were the Premier League's top spenders, parting way with over £150million on Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale among others. This summer, Arsenal have purchased Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Fabio Vieira. The Daily Mail are reporting 20 clubs across Europe have been identified as potentially breaking FFP rules for the 2021/22 season by UEFA. However, UEFA are still yet to receive the final accounts from teams, meaning it's  unclear what sort of punishment Arsenal could receive. PSG and Barcelona are also set to be handed punishments for their accounts up to 2020/21.

San Francisco Metro System Hires Raptors To keep Pigeons Away

Riders of the San Francisco Bay Area metro system in California may have seen a new station guard recently. Pac-Man, a 5-year-old Harris’s hawk, has occupied the perch at El Cerrito del Norte station and is keeping an eye out for pigeons rather than fare-evaders. Pac-handler Man’s Ricky Ortiz, a falconer with Falcon Force, started patrolling the station with the bird this summer under a contract with BART to keep pigeons at bay and shield riders from pigeon poop. The squad patrols three days a week, beginning their day at the entrance on the ground floor before surveying the platforms and chasing away any pigeons that could be perched on ledges or on the station’s interior scaffolding. Ortiz has thus far observed a significant difference. He said, “There was probably less than half of the pigeons here after the week of us flying.” Ortiz makes an effort to prevent Pac-Man from devouring the pigeons or neighborhood rodents by providing him with food throughout the day to keep his feath

Oprah Winfrey’s Company Sues The “Oprahdemics” Podcast Producers

The producers of the “Oprahdemics” podcast are being sued by Oprah Winfrey’s firm, which claims that the podcast misleads listeners into believing that she has endorsed or approved it. Winfrey’s Harpo Inc. claimed in a complaint submitted late on Tuesday to Manhattan federal court that it is neither suing “Oprahdemics” authors Kellie Carter Jackson and Leah Wright Rigueur for profits or damages nor attempting to halt the podcast. It instead requests a name change, claiming that the podcast and associated live events tarnish Harpo’s “Oprah” and “O” trademarks and improperly profit on the reputation that Winfrey has worked so hard to establish over the years. The “Oprah Effect” or “The O Factor” is the term for the “exponential” increase in sales that results from simply being connected with the “Oprah” brand, according to Harpo, which is Oprah spelt backward. According to the “Oprahdemics” website, Jackson and Rigueur are historians and friends who analyse historic Winfrey talk show e

Feds Seize R. Kelly’s $28k Prison Inmate Fund

  R. Kelly’s inmate commissary fund has reportedly been sized by the feds. According to Bloomberg reports, Prosecutors requested a federal court to seize over $28,000 from his inmate commissary fund after R. Kelly failed to pay $140,000 in court-ordered fines. The letter sent on August 4 read, “the defendant had accumulated substantial funds in his inmate trust account.” The Bureau of Prisons consequently froze the funds, leaving him with $500. The same day, Jennifer Bonjean, Kelly’s attorney, tweeted that the government was acting unethically. She explained, “After seizing his funds and after sending this email, @EDNYnews decided to file a motion to confiscate his trust account money. You’re supposed to do that BEFORE you take the money.” “The BOP confiscated the majority of Mr. Kelly’s funds today with no notice to him and without any court order. Now, over a month later, Toyota has not yet identified the issue and is offering to simply buy back the SUVs from customers who no longer want to wait for the problem to be resolved. Because the issue became evident soon after the SUVs went on sale, there are only about 260 BZ4X owners in the United States facing this situation. There are more who had ordered the SUV but not yet had it delivered when the "Do not drive" warning was announced. Those customers have never been able to accept delivery of their SUVs. Battle Over Prince's $156 Million Estate Comes To An End After Six Years

The battle over Prince’s $156 million estate has finally come to an end six years after the music legend’s death. A Minnesota state judge on Monday split cash, music rights and other assets belonging to the late icon evenly between two holding companies ― Prince Legacy LLC, controlled by a group of three half-siblings and their advisers, and Prince Oat Holdings LLC, controlled by three other half-siblings and the music publishing company Primary Wave. Prince, who died of a fentanyl overdose in 2016, hadn’t written a will and his half-siblings were named legal heirs due to his lack of kids and a spouse, according to Billboard. L. Londell McMillan, one of two advisers who control an “undisclosed stake” in the estate and are partnered with Prince Legacy LLC, suggested the settlement will open the door to a wave of Prince-branded enterprise, including at his famed Paisley Park home outside of Minneapolis. “I represented Prince for over 13 years and we led with innovation to reform the mu

Federal Government purchases N1.4bn vehicles for Niger Republic

The Federal Government of Nigeria today justified the approval of N1,145,000,000.00 for the purchase of vehicles for neighbouring Niger Republic. There had been outrage over the Federal Government’s largesse to the neighbouring country, as some have questioned why such money should be given to Niger Republic when public universities in Nigerian remained closed for about five months over the inability of the government to meet up with the demands of staff. The outrage began after journalist and social media influencer, David Hundeyin, exposed the Federal Government’s gift to Niger Republic. However, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, when asked to confirm the reports, argued that even though Nigerians have the right to question the approval, President Muhammadu Buhari, who approved the purchase also has the right to make his own assessment on situations and act accordingly. Responding to questions at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Counci

Phil Mickelson, 10 other LIV golfers, file antitrust suit against PGA Tour

Eleven golfers from the fledgling LIV Golf Invitational Series filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour, arguing that their careers were hurt when the Tour suspended them after they joined the Saudi-funded breakaway league.
