Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, BTS Lead At 2020 MTV Video Music Awards

The MTV Video Music Awards 2020 has took place yesterday with performances that aired from different locations in New York City due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Actress and singer, Keke Palmer who hosted the event from an outdoor set near the Empire State Building kicked off the ceremony with a pre-recorded video honoring Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died at 43 on Friday August 28, after a four-year battle with colon cancer.
Performers included Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, the Weeknd, Maluma, BTS, and more.

This year’s VMAs featured two new categories in light of the coronavirus pandemic: Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance.

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande went into the awards with nine nominations each and Gaga won five honours at the MTV Video Music Awards.

She received awards for artist of the year, song of the year, best cinematography and best collaboration for ‘Rain on Me’ and the inaugural Tricon award, which recognizes an artist who is highly accomplished across three or more disciplines.
The Tricon Award is the ostensible replacement for the annual Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (which was last awarded to Missy Elliott).

Gaga during her final acceptance speech said;

Just because we’re separated right now, and culture may feels less alive in some ways, I know a Renaissance is coming. Stay safe, speak your mind, and I might sound like a broken record, but wear a mask — it’s a sign of respect.
Ariana Grande walked away with four wins, BTS also won four awards, while The Weeknd snagged two and dedicated his awards speeches to justice for Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor.
