SriLankan Airlines set to resume flights to some destinations including China

Sri Lanka’s national air carrier, SriLankan Airlines, is planning to resume flights to South Korea, China and Australia from August once the country’s international airports open for foreign tourists according to local media reports.

Chairman of SriLankan Airlines, Ashok Pathirage, told newsmen that the airline plans to resume flights from Aug. 1, however it may not go back to the same destinations.

“Our idea is to fly to destinations like China, which is much safer and we are also looking at new destinations like (South) Korea, Seoul,’’ Pathirage said.

SriLankan Airlines is also planning to start flights into Sydney, Australia, in addition to Melbourne which it was already flying to and is also looking at resuming flights to the Maldives which is expected to re-open for tourists in July.

SriLankan Airlines is already operating cargo flights to Seoul and over 20 other destinations.

Recently, the Sri Lankan government has said it is aiming to open its international airports before the set time frame of Aug. 1 as no community transmission of the COVID-19 has been reported in the country since late April.


The country closed its airports in March for passenger arrivals to prevent the spread of the virus.

FRSC reinforces directive on use of google maps while driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has clarified its position on the use of Google Maps, The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ayuba Gora was quoted saying that driving with the aid of Google map using mobile phones is a serious traffic offence. Gora said this at the inauguration of the 2019 Ember Months Campaign by Lugbe Unit Command of the FRSC in Abuja yesterday. But, FRSC Spokesman Bisi Kazeem making reference to Gora’s comments said the Sector Commander was quoted out of context and his statement outrightly misrepresented.
