APC crisis: Oshiomhole asked to resign after meeting with Buhari, govs

A number of All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairmen, Friday night, asked the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to resign.

They made their demand hours after President Muhammadu Buhari chaired the National Caucus Meeting of the party attended by Oshiomhole, governors, among other stalwarts.

Addressing journalists after what they called an inconclusive APC NEC meeting, the members said Oshiomhole should leave office, insisting that his leadership had divided the party.

Lawal Lawani, spokesman of the aggrieved chieftains and Chairman of Zamfara APC chapter, alleged that Oshiomhole had hijacked the NEC of the party,

Other aggrieved APC chairmen, who endorsed the statement, are: Arc. Bala Kangiwa (Kebbi), Habibi Sara (Jigawa), Ade Adetimeli (Ondo), Abdullahi Abbas (Kano), Abba Yaro (Benue), Omotosin Paul (Ekiti), Mohammed Jibril Iman, (Niger), Anslem Ojezua (Edo), Philips Shekwo (Nasarawa) Rtd Air Com Ikeda (Kaduna) Lakep Dabah (Plateau) Shitu Shitu (Katsina) Isah Sadiq (Sokoto).
A statement Lawani read noted: “Most of the goodwill acquired by the Party, by reasons of its religious adherence to the provisions of its Constitution and the tenets of internal democratic practices has taken a downturn, principally due to dictatorial and despotic tendencies of the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who has usurped the powers of the National Executive Committee of the party.

“This may have been responsible for the admonition of Mr President who insisted that the Party Organs, at the State, LGA and Ward levels, must be strengthened and accorded due respect with regard to the powers and responsibilities conferred on them by the Constitution of the Party.

“Most, unfortunately, the facade conducted by the National Chairman, today, the 22nd of November, 2019, as a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, leaves much to be desired.
“He completely ignored Mr President advice and rather defied all known rules for meetings by precluding contributions from members and ending the meeting abruptly, without achieving anything. This is most unfortunate and undesirable.

“Arising from the foregoing and having regards to the huge responsibilities bestowed on us as officers of the party and in the overriding interest of our members, we’re left with no option but to demand that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole resigns his position as National Chairman, in other to stem the slide and provide an enabling environment for genuine healing, reconciliation and practice of true democracy within the party across the country”.

Nigerian Military hands over 23 rescued children to UNICEF through Borno State

The Nigerian military has handed over 23 children who were formerly associated with Boko Haram insurgents, to UNICEF through the Borno State government.  The children were picked up during various military operations around the north-east region. Aged between 17 and 10 years, the boys and girls confessed to the military that they have been assisting the Boko Haram insurgents either as fighters or domestic helps in the camps. The Theatre Commander of a military counterinsurgency force, Abba Dikko, said the 23 children were released in line with Nigeria military’s commitment to the observance of human rights. He observed that the children and other vulnerable persons were victims who faced with the highly unstable circumstances induced by the conflict would have had little option but to fall under the thrall of the insurgents.  “We were able to identify this category of people, especially the women, the aged and children to whom it behooves our sense of duty and res...

FRSC reinforces directive on use of google maps while driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has clarified its position on the use of Google Maps, The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ayuba Gora was quoted saying that driving with the aid of Google map using mobile phones is a serious traffic offence. Gora said this at the inauguration of the 2019 Ember Months Campaign by Lugbe Unit Command of the FRSC in Abuja yesterday. But, FRSC Spokesman Bisi Kazeem making reference to Gora’s comments said the Sector Commander was quoted out of context and his statement outrightly misrepresented. Kazeem said the FRSC as a technology-driven organisation is not and has never stood against the use of Google Maps by Motorists. The statement read: “To state the obvious, we have always enlightened the public on the position of the law on the use of phone while driving. “The statement he made during the flag off buttresses the position of the Corps, which is that any driver who intends to deploy the use of Google Map...
