Police arrest Offa bank robbery sponsor, a 29 year old drug baron and 12 suspects

A 29-year-old alleged drug baron, identified as the Offa bank robbery sponsor, has been arrested by the Nigeria police. Adegoke Shogo, described as a mega distributor of Indian hemp, allegedly provided part of the logistics used during the operation that claimed at least 30 lives, including those of nine policemen. Twelve more suspects, including Adegoke Shogo, have been arrested by the police in connection with the Offa banks robbery. Nigeria police force Headquarters spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told reporters this in Abuja. TheNation newspaper reports that the police said Adegoke Shogo sponsored the attacks with “misplaced expectations of expanding his criminal and social profile.” This brings to 20 the number of people so far arrested over the Offa banks robbery. Among the suspects is one 18-year-old Aminu Ibrahim. Aminu Ibrahim was picked up in Ilorin, the state capital. Other suspects in the second set of arrests are Kayode Opadokun (35); Ka

US and allies attack chemical weapons sites in Syria

The United States of America, and its allies – The United Kingdom and France have launched air strikes in Syria targeting what they allege are chemical weapons facilities in response to chemical weapons attack in Douma, a Damascus suburb, last week. The Pentagon said the air strikes, which began in the wee hours of Saturday, involved planes and ship-launched missiles, more than a hundred weapons in all. US officials say the strikes were targeted at three facilities: a scientific research centre in Damascus, a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs, and another storage site and command post nearby. “I ordered the United States armed forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapon capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” United States President Donald Trump said early Saturday at the White House. “We are prepared to sustain this response until the Syrian regime stops its use of prohibited chemical agents,” he said. I have unfinished business in Ekiti Govt House – Kayode Fayemi

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has told a crowd at a rally in Ado Ekiti the reason why he is vying for the position of the governor of the state and according to the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, he has unfinished business in the government house. At a declaration ceremony attended by a mammoth crowd on Saturday in Ado Ekiti,Fayemi said he had an unfinished business in the government house. Making a mockery of the Peoples Democratic Party, Fayemi said the party should expect another transparent, free and fair election like the one it conducted and won by its then candidate, Governor Ayodele Fayose. One Sgt. Saghir Koli had revealed how the election was manipulated by the Nigerian Army in connivance with two former ministers: Musiliu Obanikoro and Abdul-Jelil Adesiyan in favour of Fayose – the then candidate of the PDP. Fayemi said: “You remember the June 21, 2014 election which was transparent, this time around, we will have a transparent, free and fair

City on the brink of clinching title

Manchester city coach Pep Guardiola says winning the Premier League will be one of the greatest achievements of his glittering career after Manchester City moved to the brink of the title with a stylish 3-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday. Guardiola's side extended their lead over second-placed Manchester United to 16 points thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling at Wembley. Christian Eriksen had reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the first half, but City will be crowned champions if United lose to bottom-of-the-table West Brom on Sunday. If United draw the race would also effectively be over as City would be 15 points clear with a maximum of 15 available to Jose Mourinho's team, who have a vastly inferior goal difference. A United victory would keep City's champagne on ice for a few more days at least. But a United defeat against Bournemouth in midweek or a City win over Swansea next Sunday would wrap up the silverware. Guardiola has won title

Red hot Salah hits 40 mark as Liverpool win

Mohamed Salah joined two Liverpool greats as he scored his 40th goal of a superb season in his side's 3-0 rout of Bournemouth to consolidate third spot in the Premier League on Saturday. The Egyptian headed in his side's second in the 69th minute to join Ian Rush and Roger Hunt -- the only other Liverpool players to reach 40 goals in a single season. Rush, who managed the feat twice, holds the record of 47 goals in the 1983-84 season but Salah, the first African player to hit 30 Premier League goals in a season, now has that mark firmly in his sights. Victory kept third-placed Liverpool 10 points above fifth-placed Chelsea with four games left, although Chelsea have a game in hand on Juergen Klopp's side. After the adrenaline rush of completing a 5-1 aggregate win over Premier League leaders Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday there was a danger that the visit of Eddie Howe's Bournemouth might be an anti-climax. But from the moment Sadio Mane converted

Welbeck motivated by competition

Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck has been motivated by the competition for first team action with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette but believes he can also fill the void left in the line-up by Henrikh Mkhitaryan's injury. Welbeck enjoyed a productive outing in Arsenal's 3-2 Premier League win over Southampton on Sunday, scoring two goals and earning praise from manager Arsene Wenger for showing signs of his best form following three injury-hit seasons. The 27-year-old England international had been expected to compete with recent signings Lacazette and Aubameyang for game-time but the striker suggested he can play alongside the pair. "As you've seen, I can play with Pierre and with Laca," Welbeck told British media. "It is nice. It gives you that added motivation. The competition is there so you are going to improve and better yourself. "I've had that throughout my whole career. Being at an academy where players come from all

Arsenal win Elneny red-card appeal

Good news for Arsenal football club as they will have midfielder Mohamed Elneny available for their next three Premier League games after winning an appeal against his sending off against Southampton on Sunday. The FA said in a statement on Tuesday that a three-match ban had been overturned after an independent regulatory commission accepted that the Egyptian had been wrongly dismissed for violent conduct. Arsenal won the match 3-2, with Elneny sent off for appearing to push Southampton's Cedric Soares in the face during a break in play. Saints' Jack Stephens was also dismissed for a separate incident in a wild last few minutes. The red card was the first Elneny, 25, had received in his professional career. The Londoners are 13 points behind the top four, their hopes for the remainder of the season resting on the Europa League, in which they take a 4-1 lead to CSKA Moscow for Thursday's quarterfinal second leg. They play at Newcastle United in the league on Sun
