As the Nigerian government concludes plans to sell some of its assets including the National Arts Theatre and Tafawa Balewa Square, a senator has kicked against the move, describing it as “unacceptable”.
The Director General of Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, had in an interview with journalists in Abuja, disclosed that government’s plan to sell some of its key assets was geared towards raising sufficient funds to finance the 2018-2020 budgets.
However, Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central), has faulted the decision, vowing to “stand against it” when the debate is brought on the floor of the Senate.
According to him, these assets are “our national monuments and priceless edifices of our history” and selling them would be like selling an important part of our history.
