Mapoly to award B.Tech in engineering – OGSG

The Ogun State Government has said the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, would commence the process of awarding Bachelor of Technology Degree certificate. The government said the B.Tech would be awarded to its engineering graduates instead of Higher National Diploma. The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, disclosed this at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while speaking on the state of technical education in the state. Odemuyiwa said, “The institution has been mandated by law to award a Bachelor of Technology degree in its engineering programmes.” Odemuyiwa also said the Dapo Abiodun-led administration was working towards reviewing the educational curriculum in the state to align it with the demands of modern trends. Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin has confirmed that he has become a shareholder of League Two club Forest Green Rovers. Four Nigerian students arrested for ‘hacking’ bank’s system in Philippine

Four Nigerians in Muntinlupa City, Philippine have been arrested for alleged involvement in an international syndicate that hacks and siphons funds from banks. However, the Nigerians denied the allegations. The National Bureau of Investigation made this known in a statement on Tuesday, ABC CBN News reports. The statement, which was written in Phillwas signed by NBI’s Cybercrime Division chief, Vic Lorenzo. The investigative bureau claimed that “the fraudsters’ – Nigerians – transactions were traced when they hacked a system of one Philippine bank, where at least P100 million were transferred and funneled into a different account”. EMMAN urges FG to review levies on imported electricity meters

The Electricity Meter Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (EMMAN) has appealed to the Federal Government to review its levies on imported electricity meters to promote full local content in the production of pre-paid meters. The appeal is coming on the heels of President Muhamadu Buhari’s approval of one year deferment of the 35 percent import adjustment tax (levy) imposed on fully built unit (FBU) electricity meters HS Code 9028.30.00.00 under the 2019 fiscal policy measures for the implementation of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) common external tariff (CET) 2017 – 2022. EMMAN believes the approval is an incentive for mass importation of pre-paid meters as against upscaling of local production. Police ban protests over fuel price hike in Borno State

The police have banned protests in Borno over hike in petroleum price and new electricity tariff. The ban on protests in the state was announced in a statement by the State Command late Monday and signed by the Police Public Relations’ officer (PPRO), Edet Okon, a Deputy Superintendent of Police. Veteran Nollywood Comic actor Baba Legba is Dead

Veteran Nollywood actor, Yekini Oyedele, professionally known as Baba Legba, is dead. It was gathered that the actor passed away yesterday morning in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The aged actor was said to have been battling an ailment for a while before he gave up the ghost and was buried according to Muslim rites. Before his death, Baba Legba was known for playing comic roles along with Moses Olaiya Adejumo, also known as Baba Sala. His death was announced on social media by Adejumo’s son, Boisala Emmanuel.
