Minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has assured Nigerians students that tertiary institutions in the country will reopen “very soon”. Speaking during a programme that aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on Saturday, Nwajiuba stated the federal government is also working to end the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) before schools reopen. Tertiary institutions in the country have been shut since March after the government ordered their closure to slow the speed of the coronavirus. Nwajiuba said while private universities have requested to be allowed to reopen, vice-chancellors want those in exit classes to resume in earnest. The Lagos State Government has assured the Association of African Traditional Religion, Nigeria and Overseas, Lagos State chapter, that it has not forgotten the practitioners’ request to declare August 20 as a public holiday in their favour. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Solomon Bonu, disclosed this when members of the group visited his office in Alausa, Ikeja. He described the group as promoters of the indigenous cultural heritage of the state. World Football governing body FIFA is helping football players switch eligibility and represent a second national team with a planned rule change announced midweek. The proposal gives hope to players who are eligible for multiple countries but fell out of favour at their first national team, where they are bound after just a single minute of playing time in a competitive game. The new wording would let players switch eligibility if they played a maximum of three times for the first national team — including tournament qualifying games — before they turned 21, and at least three years earlier. The new rule will take effect next month if 211 national federations approve it at the Sept. 18 congress that FIFA is hosting online from Zurich. A propeller aircraft in the fleet of a chartered carrier – Jedidiah Air yesterday hit a fence at General Aviation Terminal (GAT), local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The aircraft, King Air was reparking when it rammed into the fence at the tarmac close to a facility used by Bristow Helicopters. The King Air 200 jet with registration number 5N-HIS is being operated by Mobil Oil Nigeria-Wings Aviation. According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred on account of brake failure causing substantial damage to the airplane. An eye witness said the accident occurred about 10.00 am at the tarmac near Bristow Helicopter facility. Red Devils captain, Harry Maguire has been arrested on the Greek island of Mykonos for 'attacking police outside a bar', according to reports. The England international was allegedly involved in a dispute with other British tourists in the early hours of Friday morning before police intervened. Greek outlet Protothema have claimed three suspects, including Maguire, then attacked the police physically and verbally before being taken to Mykonos police station. Manchester United have commented and a statement read: "The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night.
