Amb. Mohammed Ibn-Chambers, the UN Special Representative for West Africa and Sahel, has restated commitment to support Nigeria to combat insurgency in the northeast and Lake Chad Basin. Ibn-Chambas made the pledge on Monday, when a delegation of the UN and European Union (EU) officials paid a courtesy visit to Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) in Maiduguri. He said that he would mobilize global partnership to support Nigeria in the campaign against insurgency. Ibn Chambers noted that the UN condemned terrorism in its entirety globally, adding that the fight against Boko Haram was not for Nigeria alone but rather a global campaign that required support from international community. He added that terrorism in the region was a manifestation of international terrorism and stressed the need for collaborative effort to ensure it defeat,NAN reports. Suspected internet fraudster, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha has filed a Fundamental Rights Enforcement Suit before the Lagos High Court to challenge his continued detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In the application dated November 14 and brought pursuant to Section 34-36 and Section 46(1) & (2) of the 1999 Constitution, Mompha is asking the court to declare that his continued detention since October 22, on the orders of a Lagos Magistrate Court which order expired on November 4, is unlawful and constitutes a gross violation of his right to personal liberty. He also wants the court to declare that the failure of the EFCC to charge and arraign him in court is unconstitutional. He is therefore seeking an order of the court directing the EFCC to release him from custody, unconditionally. The Federal Government on has inaugurated the executive officers of the National Fish Association of Nigeria (NFAN), to boost fish availability in view of the border closure. Mr Edet Akpan, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, said the development was to encourage farmers and other stakeholders in its diversification programme. “I am sure the national production of fish will not only increase, the quality and export value will also increase”, NAN quoted him as saying. Akpan said the ministry had always being on the ground to support commodity associations and would not deviate from the norm. “We also introduce them to different organisations like the Bank of Industry, and then SMEDAN is also helping them in many ways through education and organising them in such a way that they have become very formidable,” he said. Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the new Tottenham head coach until the end of the 2023 season. The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss replaces Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked on Tuesday. Negotiations between Spurs and Mourinho - who had been out of work since leaving Old Trafford in December - intensified over the last few days and concluded in the early hours of Wednesday morning. His first game will be at the London Stadium on Saturday as Spurs travel to take on West Ham in the Premier League. Pochettino left Tottenham with the club 14th in the Premier League and having won just five matches all season. Chairman Daniel Levy said he was "reluctant" to sack the Argentine, but explained the decision had to be made in the "club's best interests".

Major roads have been blocked, banks torched and public buildings attacked in the nationwide unrest that has left at least two dead — a civilian and a policeman. Footage of the violence showing masked young men on debris-strewn streets setting buildings ablaze has been aired on state television, which rarely shows any signs of dissent in the country. Demonstrations broke out on Friday after it was announced that the price of petrol would be raised by 50 percent for the first 60 litres and 200 percent for any extra fuel after that each month.
