Nigeria’s queen of music, Tiwa Savage has won the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs) in the Best African Act category. The annual MTV EMA held last night at the expansive Bilbao Exhibition Center, Bilbao, Spain, amidst glitz and glamour, awarding music artistes around the globe in different categories. The African act category was infused into the MTV EMA to enhance musical alliances across borders, and promote cultural integrations. Tiwa was nominated alongside fellow Nigerian act, David Adeleke, aka Davido; South Africa’s Distruction Boyz and Shekinah; Kenya’s Nyashinski and Fally Ipupa from the DRC. The songstress, in June of this year, lost to Davido, in the Best International Act category of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has commenced a nationwide industrial action following the inability of the Federal Government to respond to their demands. Specifically, the union accused the government of not implementing the Memorandum of Action signed with it, declaring that the strike would be total as all federal and state varsities would join the strike. The union made the announcement after their National Executive Council meeting held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State on Sunday night. The Togolese cook, who has been accused of killing Chief Ope Bademosi at his Ikoyi home in Lagos, has been arrested. The suspect in the murder of Chief Ope Bademosi, a socialite and Chairman of Credit Switch Technology, was arrested this morning at his hideout in Ondo State and he is currently at Fagun Police station, Ondo. The cook, who had only been employed four days prior to the incident, was said to have stabbed his boss "in multiple places" before carting away valuables and fleeing from the house. Confirming his arrest, the Ondo state police command spokesperson, Femi Joseph, said the suspect was arrested in in Akure, the state capital and would be paraded later today at the command's headquarter.

After three years of legal battle over a legislative seat in the Benue House of Assembly, the Appeal Court in Makurdi on Friday gave judgement in favour of Joseph Boko and ordered the immediate sack of Benjamin Nungwa, the occupant of the seat.  Both Boko and Nungwa contested the APC primary of Kwande West legislative seat in the state house of assembly in April 2015, which was won by Boko. Dissatisfied with the conduct of the primary, Nungwa, sent a petition concerning the outcome of the primary to the APC National Secretariat for arbitration. NAN reports that an Arbitration Panel was set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resolve the disputed primary election. The appellant, who dragged Nungwa, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and joined the APC in the matter, had averred that the said panel, which claimed to have held sittings in Makurdi, never invited him but took decisions from its purported sittings that had adverse effects on him...

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has ordered the organised labour, comprising the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress not to embark on its indefinite strike scheduled to commence on November 6. Justice Sanusi Kado, on Friday, gave the order in a ruling on an ex parte application moved on behalf of the Federal Government by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata. The leadership of the labour unions had agreed to embark on the strike to press home their demands for the Federal government to adopt the N30, 000 minimum wage they are requesting for. The state governors on Wednesday October 31st, announced their readiness to increase the minimum wage from N18, 500 to N22, 500. The Federal government have since rejected the proposed minimum wage by the state governors while the National leadership of the NLC and TUC have said that it is either N30, 000 or they go on strike.
