Aubameyang set to exit Arsenal

Arsenal football club might lose Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the striker desperate to play in the Champions League again, the UK Telegraph reports. A summer exit is looking likely for the 30-year-old, who joined from Borussia Dortmund for £56million in January 2018. Aubameyang was handed the captain’s armband in a bid to keep him committed, but the Gunners currently sit in 12th place. Arsenal are also 11 points off Champions League places. Aubameyang has 18 months remaining on his contract with the Gunners, but will not leave in the January window. There is still hope Arsenal can qualify for club football’s elite competition via the Europa League, with a round of 32 tie against Olympiacos to take place in February.

Premier League takes decision on use of VAR for offside calls

The Premier League will not change the way Video Assistant Referee (VAR) works for tight offside calls for the rest of this season, according to Daily Mail. VAR has proved controversial with fans during its first season in England, because of marginal offside decisions. There has been as much as five close ‘armpit’ calls during the most recent weekend of action. This week, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which makes the game’s laws, stated that VAR should only overturn blatant errors. IFAB are set to issue guidance to leagues during their annual meeting in February. However, the Premier League have no plans to alter the way VAR makes offside decisions. The league feels changing the rules halfway through a season would “affect the integrity of the competition”.

Arteta, Lampard speaks on controversial Jorginho decision as Chelsea beat Arsenal

Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, has said Chelsea midfielder Jorginho should have been sent off, before his goal against Arsenal . Substitute Jorginho was booked in the 55th minute, when he wrestled Alexandre Lacazette to the ground. The Italy international then cynically took Mateo Guendouzi down from behind, to stop a quick Gunners attack. Lacazette, who was furious with referee Craig Pawson for failing to send Jorginho off, instead got a yellow. Jorginho went ahead to make it 1-1, after Gunners keeper Bernd Leno flapping at the cross. Arteta was unequivocal when asked whether Jorginho should have been on the pitch to net. “I think that is up to you guys to decide,” he told reporters. “For me it is very clear.” Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, added: “It certainly could have been a second yellow but I don’t think it was clear cut.”

Arteta backs Leno after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea

Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, has backed Bernd Leno following his howler in their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea earlier today. Leno flapped at a Mason Mount free kick, to allow Jorginho make it 1-1 after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened scoring in the first half. Tammy Abraham then slipped his shot through the German’s leg to ensure the Blues left with all three points. Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports after the game, insisted that Leno will save more points throughout the season. He said: “He will be down and when an error costs points it’s harder. We have to respect what he’s done at the club and get him back on board. “I am really disappointed with the result. I’m pleased with a lot of things I have seen and how they buy into what I want. “It’s physically tough to maintain the level Chelsea had with young players. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to do it.”

David Luiz under attack over dangerous tackle on N’Golo Kante during Arsenal, Chelsea game

Former Manchester United star, Gary Neville has slammed Arsenal defender, David Luiz for his rash tackle on Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante during the Gunners’ Premier League 2-1 defeat against the Blues on Sunday. Two late goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham ensure Frank Lampard’s side defeated Mikel Arteta’s men at the Emirates Stadium as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s first-half was not enough to savage a point for the host. Luiz contested a 50-50 ball with Kante at the closing stages of the first half during the encounter. The Brazilian followed through with a high boot which only narrowly missed Kante’s body as Referee Craig Pawson decided not to give Luiz a yellow card for risky play. “I have to say that’s unorthodox and stupid from David Luiz,” Neville said during his commentary for Sky Sports. “He just follows through ridiculously, I’m not sure he makes contact but what is he doing? ‘It’s a ridiculous thing to do, he’s played so well, the team has played so well, t

50 naira POS charge to be paid by businesses NOT customers- CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has urged customers not to pay N50 charge to businesses for using point of sale (POS) machines. Musa Jimoh, a director in CBN’s payment system management department, explained the apex bank’s merchant charge directive on Monday. “The stamp duty is a fee regulated by an act. The CBN doesn’t regulate the stamp duty so we can’t change anything. Stamp duty as it is today has been misinterpreted,” Jimoh said. “Our circular that talks about merchants paying stamp duty according to the law does not say that the stamp duty should be paid by the consumer. That’s actually a misrepresentation of the CBN’S directive. “What our directive says is that merchants should pay all necessary charges as regulated by the government agency including stamp duty. When there is an electronic transaction to an account other than savings account and the transaction amount is more than N1,000, you have to pay stamp duty. “Our explanation to banks is that we would like t
