Access Bank acquires Diamond Bank

Access Bank has finally acquired Diamond Bank. According to insiders, the official announcement of the transaction will be made in the course of the week by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The acquisition was midwifed by the CBN in a bid to further consolidate the banking industry, sources informed TheCable. A Diamond Bank official who spoke to TheCable said there was no need for the public to panic as “the bank is in safe hands”. Last week, Diamond Bank announced its decision to drop its international operating licence to focus on national operations following capitalisation issues. Uzoma Dozie, the bank’s chief executive officer, confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday. “With this approval, the bank will cease to operate as an international bank,” Dozie had said. “The re-licensing as a national bank supports Diamond Bank’s objective of streamlining its operations to focus resources on the significant opportunities in the Nigerian retail banki

OAP, Tolu Demuren aka Toolz and her hubby, Captain Tunde, have welcomed their first child, a boy. The couple got married in June 2016. According to reports, Toolz welcomed their bundle of joy in a UK hospital this morning. Congrats to them! Congrats captain.

National Assembly workers to begin 4-days warning strike on Monday

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), National Assembly chapter, has issued a four-day warning strike notice which will commence on Monday, December 17.  According to the Chairman of the association, Bature Mohammed, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, the decision was reached in an emergency congress held on December 14.  Though President Buhari is due to present the 2019 Appropriation bill to the joint National Assembly on Wednesday, December 19, Mohammed said that the warning strike which would run till December 20, was to press home the demands of the association.  The chairman advised that all members of the association should stay away from their duty posts during the period as members of PASAN had on December 4 shut down operations at the National Assembly when they prevented lawmakers from sitting.  The grievances of PASAN include a new condition of service for members, promotion and payment of 28 per cent increment in salary captured as co

Kanye West's tweet storm is not over. On Friday, he went hard at Drake with an epic rant in over 125 tweets. Today, he's tweeting more about mental health and hitting out at celebs who took advantage of the situation to take shots at him starting with Ariana Grande. When Kanye West started his tweetstorm two nights ago, Ariana Grande who had just dropped a song with Miley Cyrus tweeted, 'guys, i know there are grown men arguing online right now but Miley and i dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y'all could please just behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine that'd be so sick thank you'. Kanye West in his response this afternoon said, 'all of this foolishness weighed on my mental health so Ariana Grande you know I got love for you but until you’re ready to really make sure everyone’s ok don’t use me or this moment to promote a song'.

Kim defends husbands tweet towards drake and warns him

Over a 9 hour period, Kanye West tweeted over 120 times at fellow rapper Drake and alleged that Drake is threatening his life. Kim Kardashian has now publicly warned Drake. On Thursday, December 13, Kanye West shared hundreds of tweets where he said Drake "called trying to threaten me." (read here) He also added in one tweet: so drake if anything happens to me or anyone from my family you are the first suspect. So cut the tough talk. Kim has now stepped in to warn Drake. She tweeted at Drake, saying: @drake Never threaten my husband or our family. He paved the way for there to be a drake. In another tweet, she wrote: My husband is the most brilliant person, the most genius person that I know. He has broken so many boundaries, everything from music, stage design, fashion and culture and will continue to change the world.

'I’m glad senate didn’t confirm me' - EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, said on Thursday that he was glad the Senate refused to confirm him as the substantive chairman of the anti-graft agency. The acting chairman said this before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja where he was testifying in a libel suit he filed against The Sun Newspaper. The EFCC boss who sued the publishers before Justice Doris Okuwobi claimed N5bn damages and also demanded that The Sun Newspapers should publish an apology and retract the alleged libellous publications. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Thursday’s validation of Senator Kashamu Buruji’s expulsion from the PDP, by a Federal High Court in Abuja, has vindicated its position that he is not PDP’s governorship candidate in Ogun state.  It says with the ruling, the validity of Ladi Adebutu, as the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun state is no longer in contention. Miss USA finally apologizes for comments she made about the English-speaking abilities of two fellow Miss Universe contestants

Miss USA has apologized after comments she made about two fellow Miss Universe contestants' English-language abilities, sparked backlash online. In a live Instagram video, 24-year-old contestant Sarah Rose Summers said that Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie is "so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she (nods and smiles)." Summers, who was joined in the video by Miss Colombia, Valeria Morales and Miss Australia, Francesca Hung, was attending the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday in Bangkok.
