While saying the Holy Prophet Muhammad used to spend generously on the poor and the needy during this period, the President urged Muslims in the country and all over the world to copy the good example. Griezemann inspires Atletico to Europa league glory

Antoine Griezmann was the hero for Atletico Madrid as the French striker scored twice in their 3-0 win over Marseille in Wednesday's Europa League final in Lyon, allowing his club to win the trophy for the third time in nine seasons. It is Griezmann's first major title with Atletico, and a fitting way to bow out if he leaves at the season's end, with Barcelona tipped as his next destination. Griezmann – brought up in Macon, just 70 kilometres from Lyon – scored once in each half, his lethal finishes coming either side of Marseille losing Dimitri Payet to injury, the French team's captain coming off in tears. Griezmann now has 29 goals this season, although it was Gabi's late strike that sealed the victory. "This is a reward for me after I left home aged 14, for all the work I have put in, the suffering," said Griezmann, who has spent his whole career in Spain but had only previously won one Spanish Super Cup. Atletico's triumph comes after

Kim Kardashian West slammed for promoting appetite suppressants

One way that Kim Kardashian West earns money is by promoting products on Instagram, but this time, some say she's gone too far. The reality TV star, who boasts 111 million followers on the social media platform, deleted a sponsored advertisement for appetite suppressant lollipops on Wednesday after facing criticism from those who called her "irresponsible" and "vile," but a few hours later, the post was live again. A publicist for the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment, and Kardashian West herself has yet to speak out about the controversy. Kardashian West, 37, has been a spokeswoman for Flat Tummy Co. for months and has gushed online at least twice about the company's meal replacement program. However, when she posted an advertisement for Flat Tummy Co.'s appetite suppressant lollipops, calling them "literally unreal" and offering a discount, critics bashed

Franzen-Davis Funeral Home wrote on its website, "The actress and activist passed away on Sunday, May 13th, 2018 at her home." Kidder starred in the comic book franchise beginning in 1978 and played the gutsy reporter for almost a decade until 1987's "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." Israel’s celebration in Jerusalem is marred by deadly violence in Gaza

While Israelis and Americans, including Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, celebrated the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem Monday, violent protests erupted 50 miles away at the border with Palestinian-controlled Gaza and in towns on the West Bank. It was the single deadliest day in Gaza since the 2014 Gaza War. The ceremony took place 70 years to the day since Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, formally declared the State of Israel an independent nation. (However, today is not Israel’s independence day; Israel officially uses the Hebrew calendar, which varies from the one the West uses.) Neither President Trump nor Secretary of State Mike Pompeo attended the ceremony, though both had at different times hinted that they might. But the president did acknowledge the event on Twitter, saying: “Big day for Israel. Congratulations!” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to a cheering crowd at the embassy dedication. Netanyahu emphasized that Trump’s decisi

Chelsea face FA charge for failing to control players during Huddersfield game

Chelsea FC have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.    The draw at home sealed the Terriers place in the Premier League for 2018/19, but did no favours for the Blues, who now look set to miss out on Champions League football. During the clash, Chelsea players were displeased with their opponents' perceived gamesmanship throughout the evening, but tensions boiled over after referee Lee Mason awarded a corner during stoppage time only to blowing his whistle for half-time just as the Blues were about to take it. Things got out of hand as several players approached the match official to protest, joined by their manager Antonio Conte. There was even need for stewards to get between the players and the referee as Mason tried making his way off of the pitch at the interval. Spotify wrote in a statement: "We don’t censor content because of an artist’s or creator’s behavior, but we want our editorial decisions – what we choose to program – to reflect our values. “When an artist or creator does something that is especially harmful or hateful, it may affect the ways we work with or support that artist or creator.” Spotify cited “hatred or violence” based on “race, religion, gender identity, sex, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability” as

Real coach hopeful Ronaldo will be fit for UCL final

Zinedine Zidane is optimistic Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit for the Champions League final against Liverpool despite Real Madrid's star player going off injured against Barcelona on Sunday. Ronaldo appeared to sustain a knock to his ankle as he bundled home a 14th-minute equaliser for Real at the Camp Nou. The striker played on until halftime but was substituted during the interval. Real went on to secure a 2-2 draw without Ronaldo, as Gareth Bale struck in the 72nd minute after Lionel Messi's superb individual effort put 10-man Barca ahead. Sergi Roberto had been sent off at the end of the first period after Luis Suarez opened the scoring in a pulsating, and highly controversial, Clasico. But Ronaldo's injury will be the key talking point, with the Portugese now facing a fight to recover in time for the Champions League final against Liverpool on May 26. "How long he will need I cannot tell you but for him, it is a small problem," Zidane said afterwa

Barca draw with Real to stay unbeaten in la liga

Lionel Messi weaved his magic to keep 10-man Barcelona's unbeaten season alive as a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou on Sunday left Real Madrid sweating over an injury to Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo was forced off at halftime after appearing to hurt his ankle and Real will be hoping their star striker can now recover in time for the Champions League final against Liverpool on May 26. The challenge from Gerard Pique had come as Ronaldo cancelled out Luis Suarez's opener before Sergi Roberto was sent off on the stroke of halftime for an altercation with Real defender Marcelo. Barca, however, took the lead in the second half as Messi scored a brilliant individual goal only for Gareth Bale, who could earlier have been sent off, to have the last word in a thrilling Clasico, his emphatic strike earning Real a deserved draw. After initially taking treatment, Ronaldo played on for 31 minutes here before Zinedine Zidane decided to substitute him at halftime, which may at least offer R

Wenger hopes Fergie recovers quickly

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger took time out after his final home game of the Gunners to wish an old rival in former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson a quick recovery after the Scot underwent emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage. Ferguson, 76, was rushed to hospital on Saturday for surgery, with United saying in a statement the procedure had gone "very well" but that a period of intensive care is required for his recovery. Wenger and Ferguson battled for supremacy in the Premier League during the Frenchman's first decade of a 22-year stay at Arsenal, which will come to a close at the end of the season. However, they later became friends and Ferguson presented Wenger with a momento on behalf of United on his last visit to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager just last weekend. "I was with him on the pitch last week. I went to see him in the box after the game and he looked in a perfect shape," said Wenger, who also started his farewell speech in his

Arsenal run riot against Burnley to give Arsene Wenger perfect Emirates send off

"I will miss you," Arsene Wenger told the Arsenal fans after being given a fitting farewell in his final home game in charge after 22 years with a 5-0 thrashing of Burnley on Sunday. On a day dominated by tributes to the Frenchman, both teams formed a guard of honour for Wenger, 68, before kick-off to a chorus of "there's only one Arsene Wenger". All around a full house of 60 000 at the Emirates – in stark contrast to recent league games when fans have stayed away in protest at a poor season – fans sported red t-shirts emblazoned with "Merci Arsene" (Thank you Arsene). "Thank you for having me for such a long time. I know that's not easy but, above all, I am like you, I am an Arsenal fan," Wenger said a post-match presentation on the Emirates turf. "I would like to finish by one simple word: I will miss you. Thank you all for being such an important part of my life." Wenger won three Premier Leagues and a record sev

Semenya ignores IAAF 'nonsense'

Caster Semenya put the "nonsense" of IAAF rules on women's testosterone behind her to storm to 1 500m victory at the opening Diamond League meet of the season on Friday, American sprinter Noah Lyles and Qatari high jumper Mutaz Barshim also dominating their events. "I don't talk about nonsense," Semenya, the double Olympic 800m gold medallist, angrily rebutted when asked about why she never commented on the regulations to counteract hyperandrogenism, the medical condition which causes women to produce high levels of male sex hormones. IAAF president Sebastian Coe had earlier hit a defiant note amid criticism of the new rules, insisting they were "appropriate for the sport". The issue is controversial because it pits principles of fair competition against the rights of women born with the condition. Athletes such as Semenya will only be able to compete when the rules come into effect on November 1 if they take medication to reduce their lev

Yaya Toure set to leave Manchester City this summer

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Yaya Toure will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of this season after winning three Premier League titles, three EFL Cups and the FA Cup. The 34-year-old midfielder joined City from Barcelona in 2010 and became a driving force behind City's successes over the past decade. Toure scored the winning goal in the 2011 FA Cup final against Stoke City, ending a 35-year trophy drought for his club and a maiden Premier League crown arrived the following season.  He has been a more marginal figure this time around as Guardiola's City have sauntered to the title, with all nine of his top-flight appearances coming from the bench. City will lift the Premier League trophy after their game against Huddersfield Town on Sunday and Guardiola confirmed Brighton and Hove Albion's visit in their final home match of the campaign will be a celebratory farewell for Toure. Asked whether a decision had been reached regarding Toure

He spoke while delivering a speech titled, ‘The role of media in the Nigerian electoral process,’ at the 69th General Assembly of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria in Lagos during the week. They also allow the public to judge

NCC suspends COSON's operating licence

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), the government agency empowered by law to oversee the affairs of COSON and other agencies under the parastatal has suspended the operating license of COSON, stopping it from collecting royalties on-behalf of and for musicians and other performing artists in Nigeria. This comes after a petition written by 2face Idibia to the commission to wade into the crisis at COSON that's lingered on for months between its chairman Tony Okoroji and Efe Omorogbe. COSON in its response to the NCC Directive swiftly filed a new process at the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division challenging the content of the letters from the Nigerian Copyright Commission suspending the copyright licensing activities of the society. In a letter dated May 3, 2018 to the NCC Director-General, Mr. Afam Ezekude, the COSON lawyers stated that the development at the Court of Appeal lawfully apprehends the NCC directives suspending the licence of COSCON to operate as a royalty

House of Representatives reject bill seeking to give paternity leave to Nigerian men

The House of Representatives have rejected a bill seeking to give parternity leave to Nigerian men whenever their wives welcome a baby. The bill for an Act to make provisions for optional paternity leave to all married male employees in private and public service was sponsored by Edward  Pwajok (APC, Plateau state). According to Pwajok who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN ), the proposal for a two or more weeks (depending on the decision of the of House) paternity leave is to ensure that mother and child get adequate assistance and care from the father. “As father’s share of parenting is on the increase, they experience similar challenges with women, such as their jobs and family duties clashing.  Making provision for maternity leave without provision for maternity leave is discriminatory against men. No better person can support a newly born baby than the father which will make the child more emotionally stable if the father stayed close. This will not be peculiar to

Ferdinand, 39, intended to fight in the cruiserweight division under the guidance of former super-middleweight world champion and Team GB coach, Richie Woodall, as part of a project dubbed “Defender to Contender”. However, in a statement issued on his social media accounts, Ferdinand announced the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) were not willing to take his application for a boxing license forward. “Having been training four to five times a week since announcing the aim of achieving a professional boxing licence and stepping into the ring, it is with a heavy heart that I am hanging up my gloves on the Defender to Contender challenge. “Despite having never felt better physically or mentally, after notifying the British Boxing Board of Control of my intention to apply for a licence, I have received confirmation that they would not be reviewing my appl

Carroll fined for leaving bench

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has been fined by manager David Moyes for his "unacceptable" decision to leave the bench during the club's 4-1 Premier League defeat by Manchester City last weekend. Carroll, an unused substitute in the match, headed down the tunnel at the London Stadium before the end of the match. Moyes said the striker had since apologised to him and the players for his behaviour. "I was really disappointed in Andy. I don't believe there was any excuse for what he did. He has been fined but he has apologised, both to me and the players, and he understands it was wrong," Moyes wrote in his column in the Evening Standard. "The following day we had a discussion in the office at Rush Green. I told him it was unacceptable and sent him away. Within an hour, it was out there for public consumption, which is also disappointing. "To be fair, Andy texted me later and apologised. I told him he needed to come in the following

Diego Costa sends Gunners crashing out of Europa League

The Europa League was supposed to be Wenger’s parting gift and his men were meant to raise their game to give a fitting end to his 22-year reign. But on the night of his 250th game in Europe with the Gunners, it was sadly, for the 68-year-old, the same old story. With the villain again being Diego Costa. The ex-Chelsea star kept up his personal mission to make Wenger and Arsenal miserable with the only goal of the game. The Gunners played okay, but all too often the final ball - particularly from the woeful Nacho Monreal - was awful. When a decent one did come, they were guilty of poor control and heavy touches. Despite having 55 per cent of possession Arsenal managed just ONE shot on target, a long-range effort from Granit Xhaka. Just before the final effort, Wenger kicked the air with his left foot. It wasn’t meant to end like this. Ten trophies - three league titles and seven FA Cups - is not a bad haul for 22 years but this match will not be one he remembers with a

30 injured in North London explosion after bonfire of smartphones

Around 30 people are believed to have been injured at a Jewish festival in North London after a small explosion occurred when a fire was lit. Reports suggest that mobile phones may have been thrown onto the fire and exploded during the celebrations for the Lag BaOmer festival. The phones were reportedly thrown onto the flames in Stamford Hill, north London, as a ‘warning against the evil of smartphones’. It’s believed that the blast only occurred as the fire was being lit, suggesting that it was caused by the fire’s fuel – thought to be oil. Footage captured by bystanders at the scene shows a bang and a large flash, with ambulance and emergency services subsequently attending the scene. London Ambulance were called to the scene at about 11pm and treated multiple people for injuries – with ten hurt by the flames and another 20 injured as they ran from the blaze.
